This is the South-African R2M2, a High-Explosive-Blast (HE-Blast), circular, plastic-bodied, non-metallic, pressure-initiated, Anti-Personnel (AP) landmine designed to wound or kill by its HE-Blast effect that uses an integral fuze with a steel Firing-Pin (FP) and lock-balls.
The landmine body has a prominent lip where the upper body overlaps and connects to the base. The upper body is made of a flexible synthetic material and has ribs running vertically on the sides. The base is made of plastic and is heavily knurled. The top of the landmine acts as a pressure plate. The pressure plate is supported by a sponge which prevents it from exerting pressure on the striker assembly until a load is applied.
This landmine has very Low-Metal-Content (LMC) and is difficult to locate using metal detectors under most field conditions. The R2M2 can be defeated by blast-overpressure from explosive breaching systems.
