On August 23, 1978, SWAPO’s Operation Revenge was executed on the SADF’s Sector 70HQ at Katima Mulilo at 01h15 in retaliation of the attack by the SADF on Cassinga on 4 May 1978. The standoff attack was launched from Zambia with 122mm missiles, 82mm and 60mm mortars. One of the 122mm missiles hit a dormitory of the SADF troops killing ten and wounding a further ten.

Operation Revenge

A SWAPO operation / attack on the South African Defence Force (SADF) base at Katima Mulilo on August 23, 1978, in retaliation for the preceding South African Operation Reindeer. This response involved a bombardment of rockets launched from Zambia, which killed ten SADF soldiers, including one from a barracks hut. This event was seen by SWAPO as a means to avenge the casualties and propaganda damage caused by the controversial South African airborne assault on Cassinga,
