“As another beautiful comes to an end at AFB #Ondangwa and the night vigil begins, we see the #Puma helicopter as it stands ready for Fire-Force duties at first light, the Air Traffic Controller in the Control Tower in the background prepares for the graveyard shift 23h00 to 05h00 and there is a hive of activity at the light aircraft flight line as technical personnel and armourers prepare the Bosbok aircraft for their midnight to dawn missions.
Off-duty personnel can be seen assisting armourers carry aerial flares and other armaments to the aircraft.
Mates bringing their friends food from the mess, the SADF Army is busy in the mortar pits preparing all the 81mm and 60mm bombs and stocking up with ammunition, the “manne” on the Flak Towers busy with last minute preparations before night settles in and black-out rules become mandatory.
These were the times where everyone was proud to carry out each and every task allotted to them to the best of their ability”.
