There is a lot to be said for the SAAF Alouette III gunship pilots, skill and a real sense of on edge flying would be an understatement. Here a SAAF Alouette flies up close and personal to a moving SADF “Buffel” APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) somewhere during the Border War.

This photograph was taken from a South African Air Force Alouette gunship helicopter called in for close fire support to a SADF Army ground patrol who had hit a contact and where taking intense small arms fire from civilian dwellings in a village.

This is a SWAPO PLAN fighter’s “Rambo” pose with his buddies, it was recovered as intelligence from the original owner who was unfortunately killed in action.

As if things were not dangerous enough on the South West Africa (Nambia) border……Here’s a snake in the “longdrop” (ablution tent)! We are loving the “clothing optional, I just need my assault rifle” approach to deal with this.
