Attack on Nkongo by SWAPO PLAN at 20h55 with 8 x 82mm mortars. 1 x SADF wounded

Sunday, 18 May 1980
30 x PLAN insurgents attacked SADF guarding an air supply point 17km NE of Nkongo with mortars, RPG7s and small arms fire. 4 x SADF killed and 13 x SADF wounded

Nkongo

The Nkongo base was a South African Army (SADF/SWAPOL) military installation in Ohangwena Region, Namibia, during the border war. It was established in the area of the 54 Battalion and played a prominent role as a center for security operations against SWAPO/PLAN guerrillas.
