Sergeant Clive Gordon Cripps, “C” Squadron, Rhodesian Special Air Service, operating deep behind enemy lines. He is unshaven, not in uniform, and carrying the weapon of the enemy, as part of the Rhodesian pseudo-ops doctrine. The only piece of his identity that we can definitely tell from this picture, is his wedding ring, as the young operator had been married not long ago.
On 11 January 1979, he was deployed to Manicaland on the border of Mozambique as part of Operation Gaiter. Two SAS Operators were wounded in action on that sad day, and Clive was killed in action.
